Toolbox Talk & Safety Talk

Concept has a strong focus on safety. We work in conjunction with our employees and host clients to develop robust actions to prevent or minimise the potential for a hazard to cause harm. Each month we will be releasing a ‘Tool Box Topic’ via the website for review and information which is easy for our employees to access. This month we are discussing Mobile Phone Use while driving.

Did you know If you take your eyes off the road to read a text (2 seconds), while driving at 60km/h, you are travelling 33m blind? Obviously this exponentially increases should be you be travelling at 100km/h! In our current world where we always have an eye on the next thing, even being able to not look at your phone during a short journey seems like a struggle. But the ramifications of doing this can be catastrophic. In the 12 months ending August 2020 there were 1121 road deaths in Australia, an increase of nearly 5% from the same period a year earlier. Presently the rate of annual deaths per 100k population is 4.4, this is too high!!! Being distracted while driving can happen in many forms, but our mobile devices are one which we can remove from the equation. Put it in the glovebox or the backseat, resist the urge to look at it while driving, better yet, turn it off. Focus on the road, take in your surroundings and get to and from work safely.

Please take the time to read and if you have any questions, please contact your local office to discuss.
